Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2026 has concluded in Jermuk, bringing nine days of high-level chess competition to a close.

Held from May 29 to June 6, the tournament brought together ten elite grandmasters representing seven countries. Throughout nine rounds of play, participants demonstrated deep preparation, fighting spirit, and uncompromising chess in a closely contested battle for the top places.

Following the final round, GM Samuel Sevian (USA) emerged as the winner of the tournament, claiming the Stepan Avagyan Memorial title for the second time in his career. GM Vladislav Artemiev finished in second place, while GM Nihal Sarin secured third place.

Final standings:
1st place – GM Samuel Sevian (USA)
2nd place – GM Vladislav Artemiev (Russia)
3rd place – GM Nihal Sarin (India)

The tournament once again honored the memory of Stepan Avagyan and reaffirmed Armenia’s place on the international chess calendar by bringing world-class players to Jermuk.
